What is the history of the Ye Olde Miter pub?
The Ye Olde Miter pub was built in 1546, during the reign of Henry VIII, for the servants of the Bishop of the city of Ely. The latter depended on the province of Cambridgeshire and was therefore not attached to London. As an anecdote, the London police could not intervene without authorization until the 70s!
The current building dates from 1772 when it was rebuilt, making it one of the oldest pubs in London. When inside, it was restored in the 30s. Therefore, the pub is still in its "juice", which gives it an authentic atmosphere, far from the current pubs restored in the old spirit….
What is the vibe of the Ye Olde Miter pub?
Coming to Ye Olde Miter is like traveling through 18th century England! With a cozy and Tudor style atmosphere, the pub has many assets to seduce us.
First of all by its somewhat loaded decoration: paneling, engravings hung here and there, hanging pots and very pretty stained glass windows representing a miter! The layout of the bar enthroned in the center of the lounge will surprise you because if you want to change sides ... you will have to come out and go back to the other side 😉
Do not hesitate to stroll inside the pub to discover the various lounges located on the ground floor and on the first floor. And if you can't find a place, don't hesitate to sit next to your neighbor: here we share the same table! Another very pleasant point: in winter, you can enjoy a good fireplace!
Finally, at the Ye Olde Miter there is no television and therefore no match broadcast, which is an advantage if you want to be calm and chat!
In fine weather, you can enjoy the patio which has the advantage of being quiet and having a pleasant setting.
Also note that the pub can be privatized to celebrate your events….
Which beers can we taste?
The pub offers a selection of ales and lagers from the UK. The ales are top fermentation beers and the bottom fermentation lagers; the latter are lighter blond or white beers. You can also taste an excellent cider on tap.
For your information, the beers offered are London Pride, Oliver's Island, HSB, Seafarers or Castle Rock Harvest Pale.
What can we eat there?
As curious as it sounds, the pub serves tapas and more traditionally homemade sandwiches and snacks.
