The Churchill Arms: a historic pub in Notting Hill

The Churchill Arms: a historic pub in Notting Hill

Located in the district of Notting Hill and not far from Diana Mémorial Playground, the Churchill Arms is an easily recognizable historic pub thanks to its famous green facade! Enter this legendary pub for a British experience!

What is the history of The Churchill Arms pub?

This Irish pub, built in 1750, is one of the oldest historic pubs in London.

From the 1800s, Winston Churchill's paternal grandparents regularly frequented the establishment. This led to it being christened Churchill Arms in the aftermath of World War II.

Finally, its richly flowered facade enabled it to win the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show competition in 2007.

What is the vibe of The Churchill Arms pub?

With its atypical decoration, the interior of the Churchill Arms is a real cabinet of curiosity !! Do not be surprised by the rich collection suspended from the ceiling, where lanterns, bottles, pots and copper pots mix.

You will not be disappointed with the wall decoration with many pictures of Winston Churchill, newspaper clippings and historical memorabilia. Without forgetting of course the union jack with the effigy of Queen Elisabeth II. In short, despite an ultra busy decoration, the place remains pleasant and cozy.

A nice selection of beers

The Churchill Arms offers a selection of draft beers such as

  • Ales (fermentation haute): London Pride, Oliver's Island, ESB, Summer Ale
  • Lagers (fermentation basse): Honey Dew
  • Cidre

Who is the clientele of The Churchill Arms pub?

The pub is frequented by a clientele of chic neighborhoods and of a mature age… There are also tourists curious to discover this place which is both traditional and unusual.

Good plan: drink a free beer!

I offer you a great plan to drink not one but two free pints of beer (or cider) !!

To do this, go to Grand Site website of the pub and leave your contact details. You will immediately receive an email with a voucher code that you will have to present to the pub to get your free pint 🙂

In addition, by entering your date of birth, you will receive by email 3 weeks before your birthday an invitation to drink the drink of your choice for free. This invitation is valid for 6 weeks.

This offer is valid only once in all Fuller's pubs and if you want to get another free pint of beer in that pub or another like The Ye Olde Mitre, use another email address 😉

A Thai restaurant in an Irish pub !!!

The pub is proud to claim that it is the first pub in London to serve Thai food, prepared by a Thai chef and served by Thai people! Like the pub, the restaurant also has a decoration loaded with lots of plants! I have not tasted the cuisine but have read good reviews of their curry. The dishes are plentiful and inexpensive. Count £ 8.50 for a main course.

Are children allowed?

Few of the pubs accept children but no problem at the Churchill Arms, children are welcome accompanied by their parents!

Don't miss the Churchill Arms Christmas lights

If you are in London from the end of November, then do not miss the illuminations of the pub where are erected on the facade 75 Christmas trees illuminated by 11.500 lights !!!
