Sutton Park is a 2,400 acre National Nature Reserve located 6 miles north of the city centre. It’s one of the largest urban parks in Europe and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The park has open heathland, woodlands, seven lakes, wetlands, and marshes - each with its own rich variety of plants and wildlife, some rarely seen in the region. Cattle and wild ponies graze on the land.
The Visitor Centre is around 250 metres on the left from the Town Gate entrance. In the centre you'll find toilets, baby changing facilities, a gift shop, interpretive displays and maps. The Centre is open all year from 10am to 6pm in the summer and 10am to 4.30pm in the winter. Attractions and sports facilities are marked on the Sutton Park map.
Park gates are open by 9am all year. Closing times vary in line with dusk. From mid-November to late January the park closes at 5pm. From late January closing times rise gradually until they reach 10pm by mid-May. At the end of July the closing times fall back down gradually to 5pm by mid-November.
It was sunny weather and excellent for a walk. Huge space, loads to do for all ages. The food places such as the bistro are a good spot to chill at or grab a drink. Always good walk and brunch at Blackroot Bistro. Excellent place to walk dogs or to go for a walk. Lovely greenery. Just run a 10km race on February 18th. Nice place to do something with some friends, family or just general activities.
Sutton Park is a natural area where animals roam freely. Visitors should wash their hands with soap and water before eating or drinking. It is recommended to download a map showing the location of hand-washing facilities in the park. Remember to take your wellies as some tracks can be very muddy.
