The maternity department offers a wide range of services to meet individual needs, including low risk care and combined care for expecting mothers. Community midwives provide care before, during, and after birth to all pregnant women in Sandwell and West Birmingham.
All women and their families are treated with kindness, respect, and dignity at the maternity department. Their views, beliefs, and values in relation to their care and that of their babies are sought and respected at all times.
Interpreters are available for women whose first language is not English at the maternity department. Additionally, sessions are provided for women who do not speak English to help them prepare for birth and parenthood.
Women giving birth in hospital may use rooms with home-like surroundings or bring pillows or other items to make them feel more comfortable. The Delivery Suite provides a comfortable environment for women to give birth in, with equipment such as birthing balls, mats, and birthing stools available.
Combined care is provided for women with medical conditions that may need additional monitoring at the maternity department. Care is shared between a midwife and a consultant obstetrician to ensure the best possible care for the mother and baby.
