User FAQs

Belvoir Park Forest is a working forest within a city, offering a vibrant environment with a variety of wildlife and a range of trees. It is located within easy reach of Belfast's outer ring road.

Visitors can explore several waymarked trails that start and finish at the forest car park. Additionally, there are historic sites within the forest, including a Norman motte dating back to the 12th century, and an Ice House built into the side of the motte.

From Belfast, visitors can take the motorway M1 to Junction 2, then turn left onto Stockmans Lane and continue straight ahead onto Balmoral Avenue. After reaching the Malone Road junction, turn right and follow the signs for Belvoir Park Forest.

Cycling is not available at Belvoir Park Forest, but there are other forests in the area where visitors can enjoy cycling activities.

The forest opened in 1961 and covers 75 hectares along the south bank of the River Lagan. It was enclosed by a plantation family in the 1740s, and the existing buildings within the forest date back to the same era, making it a rich historical site for educational outings and school visits.
